The fun thing about a new year is that it means there are new trends to be on the lookout for. If you are planning on redoing parts of your home this next year, then you may want to look for some of the new design trends. Specifically, if you want to redo your dining room, there are a few different things that you may want to discuss with your designer. This article will list three different trends to be on the lookout for so that you can create the perfect dining room and dining experience.

Trend #1: Dining Nooks

Formal dining rooms have felt like a thing of the past for quite some time. If you don't have a formal dining room space or if you just prefer an open-living concept, then you may want to consider a dining nook. When you initially think of a dining nook, you may think of something extremely casual but it doesn't have to be. Instead, you can create a more formal dining nook that's right off of your kitchen. When choosing furniture, you may want to consider a long table with custom upholstered chairs or even a built-in bench. Just make sure that you have enough space in your nook to accommodate a lot of people when you want to host dinner parties or holidays at your house.

Trend #2: Board and Batten

Board and batten is something that's really popular in traditional architecture but it's starting to take over all types of architecture. The fun thing about board and batten is that you can have a woodworker cater it towards your personal style. For instance, if you want a more formal dining space, then you can have them use really intricate baseboards and molding throughout. Whereas if you have a more modern style then your woodworker may use more sleek pieces of wood.

Trend #3: Statement Lighting

Statement lighting is a trend that never seems to go out of style but choosing the right type of lighting is critical. Although you may find a chandelier at a local store that's on sale, it doesn't mean it's right for your space. You will not only want to consider the size of the light fixture but the style as well. If your light fixture is too small or too large, it won't look right. Some trends to consider are rattan ones or carriage ones.
