When your mattress needs to be replaced, you should do so promptly. Sleeping on a mattress that's past its prime can affect the way you sleep at night, and this can affect you in many ways during the daytime. Not getting a good night's sleep can affect your mood, your concentration, and your overall sense of well-being. Here are some signs telling you it's time for a new mattress:
The mattress is sagging in some areas
In most cases, the mattress will end up sagging in the middle where you lie the most. Or, if two people sleep in the same bed, then it will sag where each of you lies each night. Sometimes, the bed can sag in other areas if you regularly sit in one spot for long periods of time. With a two-sided mattress, flipping the mattress can make it feel like it isn't sagging as much at first. However, as time goes on the sags will be more stubborn. Sleeping on a bed in this condition can leave you with regular backaches.
The mattress is lumpy
The padding that's inside of the mattress can end up moving around and gathering in clumps. When the mattress has lumps due to those changes, it can be extremely uncomfortable for you to sleep on. Not only will you not end up with the support you need in some places, but you can also wake up sore in places where you slept all night on a lump.
The mattress triggers your allergies
Over time, a lot of allergens can end up collecting in the mattress. These allergens can cause a lot of problems for you with regards to your allergies. Dust, mildew, dust mites, pet dander, mold, pollen, and other allergens will remain in the mattress, and while you are sleeping on it, you will be breathing those things in and triggering allergy attacks regularly.
The mattress causes regular stiffness and pain
It's usually the old and worn condition of a mattress that causes you to start feeling worse. However, sometimes it can be that the type of mattress you have is no longer right for you. If something has changed, such as you have had a back injury or you have developed arthritis, then the bed you used to sleep on just fine can suddenly bother you. No matter what the problem is, waking in pain from the mattress means that it should be replaced.
